Ownership and Responsibility
Most citizens have lost their sense of ownership and responsibility for public infrastructure and national resources, thereby allowing these assets which should be benefitting them, to be looted, vandalised and abused.
Most people do not care much for public property even if it is looted or vandalised. In most case this is due to lack of the realisation that every citizen is the owner of every national resource, and all of the country's infrastructure. Sadly, the average citizen's life standard is greatly impacted negatively when the national resouces which could have subsidised their medical, and other public services are looted, and the infrastructure which could have made their lives easier has been destroyed.
We consequently look to develop in the masses a sense of ownership of all the natural resources and infrastructure in our country. Citizens are encouraged to take responsibility and closely monitor the administration, development and preservation of national resources and public property, and report any negligent or irresponsible operations by officials on the platforms availed to them. Through the operations below we aim to help to conscientise the average Zimbabwean of his ownership of national resources and infrastructure, of his duty to protect and take care of them, and his right to benefit from them:
- Submitting reports: reporting abuse or mismanagement of national resources, and underperforming officials and service providers. ZRN will hold spaces where such reports are addressed and members vote on how we as an organisation can hold the offending party to account, and get them to reform their ways.
- Submitting suggestions: where citizens see a need to improve or expand service delivery or infrastructure or institutions. As an organisation ZRN can pressurise public service officials to act on these suggestions and in some cases donate funds to this end, or alternatively employ its own members to carry out these operations.
- Submitting opinions or voting: after live discussions members can submit their opinions/preferences concerning the discussed issues. Their submissions are analysed and correlated to formulate a sample of public opinion which ZRN then acts upon to execute the thus fashioned public will.
